Dr. Kang is Professor of Medicine at the Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea. He received his degree in medicine from Seoul National University and specialized in internal medicine and oncology/hematology. In 1992, he received also a PhD from Seoul National University. Before joining the Asan Medical Center, Dr. Kang finished a research fellowship at the National Cancer Institute at NIH, USA and led the clinical program of hematology/oncology and the Laboratory of Experimental Therapeutics at the Korea Cancer Center Hospital in Seoul.
Dr. Kang is an expert in clinical development of new anti-cancer therapies. He has directed Clinical Research Center for several years in Asan Medical Center and has led a number of important international clinical trials. His main interests are in the treatment of GIST, gastric cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma. He has been the president of Korean Society of Medical Oncology (KSMO), the Korean Cancer Study Group (KCSG), and the Korean GIST Study Group. And he is a member of many professional societies such as the Korean Cancer Society, American Society of Clinical Oncology , European Society of Medical Oncology, and the American Association of Cancer Research. He has published more than 350 papers in peer review journals.
