Attending Pathologist
Cleveland Clinic
Dr. Dermawan is an Attending Pathologist and Medical Director for Anatomic Pathology Molecular Services at the Cleveland Clinic, specializing in Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology as well as Molecular Pathology. Her research interests are centered on the histologic and genomic and epigenomic characterization of novel and rare soft tissue entities. Recently, she has spearheaded projects focused on developing genomic risk stratification models for gastrointestinal stromal tumors and leiomyosarcoma. Dr. Dermawan is also investigating single-cell and spatial transcriptomics to understand developmental lineages and cell states in spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma and leiomyosarcoma. She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Research, Modern Pathology, Journal of Pathology, American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Histopathology, etc.
Currently, Dr. Dermawan is the principal investigator of several major research initiatives. She is the recipient of the 2023 LMS SPORE Career Enhancement Program and the 2024 Sarcoma Foundation of America's Research Award to investigate the genomic and spatial landscapes of leiomyosarcoma, and the DoD’s Rare Cancers Research Program Resource and Community Development Award to establish a unified sarcoma methylomics network and classifier. She was the recipient of the 2023 Young Investigator Award from the Connective Tissue Oncology Society.
