Markus Albertsmeier is a surgical oncologist and attending surgeon at the Department of General, Visceral and Transplantation Surgery, LMU University Hospital, Munich (Germany). He also heads the Coordination Center for Surgical Studies (KCS) at this department and is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich.

His clinical work focuses on the surgical treatment of retroperitoneal and abdominal soft tissue tumors, including complex multivisceral resections for retroperitoneal soft tissue sarcomas. Dr. Albertsmeier is interested in the effects of mluitmodal treatment of soft tissue saroma on outcomes and surgical morbidity. In 2024, he initiated the "Priority Setting Partnership Retroperitoneal Sarcomas" which brings together experts and patients to identify and prioritize the top 10 unanswered research questions regarding retroperitoneal soft tissue sarcoma.
