Post-doctoral Fellow
City of Hope Cancer Center
My name is Miguel Zugman, and I was born in Curitiba, Brazil, where I obtained my medical degree from Universidade Federal do Paraná. I later moved to São Paulo, completing an Internal Medicine residency at UNIFESP, followed by a Medical Oncology Fellowship at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (HIAE). After working as an oncologist at HIAE for four months, I joined Dr. Sumanta Pal's team at City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, California, as a postdoctoral research fellow.
In my current role, I attend the genitourinary cancer clinic. My research focuses on the gut microbiome's role in cancer development and its impact on treatment responses, particularly in genitourinary malignancies and other tumor types. I also have a strong interest in comprehensive genomic profiling and next-generation sequencing techniques to define cancer origins and subtypes. My goal is to explore targeted therapies that improve patient outcomes, especially in rare diseases such as sarcoma.
