Yvonne Schrage MD PhD works as a consultant surgeon at the Netherlands Cancer Instritute/Antononi van Leeuwenhoek in Amsterdam as a specialist in sarcoma and melanoma care since 2019.
Yvonne completed her PhD studies in 2009 with a thesis focused on translational medicine in chondrosaroma treatment.
She trained in surgery at the Leiden University Medical Center in Leiden and qualified as a surgical oncologist and gastrointestinal surgeon in 2018. After receiving the ESSO Major Fellowship she spent half a year in three large sarcoma centers in Europe; Institut Curie in Paris, Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan and The Royal Marsden Hospital in London and completed the ESSO European School of Soft tissue Sarcoma Surgery. Thereafter she worked as fellow in transplant surgery for one year in Leiden.
Currently, Yvonne is working as a sarcoma and melanoma specialist in the Netherlands Cancer Institute. She is the author of over 60 peer reviewed articles, reviews and book chapters mainly focused on soft tissue sarcoma and melanoma. She is a member of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO), the Connective Tissue Oncology Society (CTOS), EORTC sarcoma and melanoma groups and the Dutch society for surgical oncology (NVCO) and gastrointestinal surgery (NVGIC).
Yvonne was involved in the ESSO EYSAC steering committee from 2018 to 2022 and has a role in the Education and Training committee. She was appointed as a member of the ESSO board of directors in 2024.
