Astrid Lipplaa started her training internal medicine and medical oncology in 2012 at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) / The Hague Medical Center in the Netherlands. In 2015 she spent one year in Oxford, to work as a research fellow at the Early Phase Trials Unit of the Churchill Hospital. After this year she started as a PhD candidate at the department of medical oncology at the LUMC with an interest in rare bone tumors. From 2019 until 2023 she combined her medical oncology specialization at the LUMC with her PhD studies. In 2023 she registered as a medical oncologist and worked as an internist- medical oncologist in the Groene Hart Hospital in Gouda, the Dijklander Hospital in Hoorn and Purmerend. From 2024 she has a position as a internist-medical oncologist in the Rode Kruis Hospital in Beverwijk.
